We are happy to share that Dr. Lewis has received a $2,500 teaching grant through the University of South Carolina Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). The grant, called the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Course (Re)Design Grant, supports faculty who have completed the UDL in Practice Short Course by providing an opportunity to apply the framework to a course they are currently teaching or planning to teach. UDL is an evidence-based framework that enables instructors to communicate expectations, course content, and student resources effectively, ensuring that all learners can fully engage and succeed. CTE staff will assist Dr. Lewis in designing the course aligned with UDL concepts and in establishing personalized indicators and measures for ongoing course improvement. Dr. Lewis will use this grant to develop his “Science, Ethics, and Society” course, which will be taught as a section of “Biology 599: Special Topics” in Spring 2027.
